Weep Democrats in Pakistan!

Nilofer’s Corner

Weep Democrats in Pakistan.

June 22nd 2012:  211 Members of The National Assembly of The Islamic Republic of Pakistan elected MNA Raja Parvaiz Ashraf, aka ‘Raja Rental’ as our Democratic Prime Minister; a discredited corrupt individual who was dismissed from the PPP led Cabinet as a result of his corruption.  The National Accountability Bureau received millions of rupees from 'Raja Rental' in return for amnesty against ‘some ‘ of his corruption cases.

In spite; Asif Ali Zardari is hell bent on bringing forward those forces in this very fragile society who believe this country cannot be Democratic and can only be ‘saved by the security establishment’.

This political party which touts democratic credentials and at every opportunity screams victimhood and defends corruption of all its elected members will be responsible for ending any democratic development this country can begin evolving towards.

What is most disturbing are the Liberal and democratic individuals who continue to support this political party and its current policies. Conspiracy theories with substance abound that the Boots will be stepping in to ‘save’ this country from this spiraling mis governance and economic crisis. What is completely absent is the responsibility of these 300 elected members if this nightmare unfolds Again   continued uncritical and absolute support for this corrupt PPP and its Alliance is criminal and paving the way for the boots returning to Pakistan.

Democracy does not mean keeping in office 300 odd members of Parliament in business. Democracy means working towards improving the basic needs of 180 million souls starving for justice. No excuses. If you cannot translate your ‘supposed democratic and liberal values’ into policies and actions then this political party and its supporters need to reflect upon the consequences. Leave the business of governance to those who can amongst you. Leave it to those who have the guts to take the risks necessarily to change the lives of ordinary Pakistanis for the better.

As democrats there is logic why we support this means of governance. It is suppose to ensure accountability and ensure a better life for every citizen equally. That means condemning the murders of your Governor and Minister of Minority Affairs alongside those MNAs who have their sisters married to the Qur’an. It means firing those responsible for keeping OBL safe in Pakistan for five years. If you espouse democratic values then prove it! Its not complicated.

Democracy is a system in which ousting those who do not work in the interests of the nation- is automatic. That means ensuring those who flout the laws of the land do not represent the nation!

Democracy is supposed to reflect the views, needs and future of its people. If this is absent in Parliament and the personal interests of just 300 is its purpose- why do Democrats support this farcical lot?

The myths of better governance by the undemocratic military regimes not withstanding, the inability of public scrutiny of the Military institutionalized and not so institutionalized corruption, is strengthen by the absolute despicable disregard of basic moral ethical behavior by our elected members.

Asif Zardari chose out of 190 members of Parliament; that One who represents all that is disgusting. Rental Raja is now supposed to lead the Nation out of the power crisis he is partially responsible for? Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, KPK are burning, violence is rampant, frustration is at an all time out of control level and Zaradari asks the people to eat Cake; in the name of democracy. If this isn’t a red rag in front of a frustrated bull I don’t know what is? What does Democracy mean in Pakistan?  Weep Pakistani Democrats weep.

  1. well written article, fully agree with your assessment. My personal opinion, the day we all start thinking as Pakistani's; changes will occur. When I say Pakistani, I do not mean another Quami Nagma or a nara, I mean the the day we stop thinking as Pathan, Punjabi, Sindhi....etc

  2. You've written exactly how too many of us feel. However I think your being somewhat naive when you very well know the Machiavellian Asif Zaradari is - he attempts to emulate Michael Corleon from the Godfather Trilogy. Now here's something for you. Tass Jumani established a power plant, agreement with AZ was US$ 100,000 per month for 25 months, Jumani is still paying, having paid close to US$ 5 million todate. Whose he? Late Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi's son-in-law who was AZ's frontman during BBs last two stints. Javed Saifullah is doing the same. AZ has a reputation for not keeping his word. He's an extortionist. When Usman was on PSO's board, Anwar/Saleem in collusion with AZ skimmed hundreds of millions by supplying offspec petroleum materials contaminated with sea water thus skimming quantities. Riaz Laljee got kidnapped by AZ because he had shortchangned him in the Rs. 40-45 billion steel mill scam of credit sales. Ever heard the names Farooq Awan and Ch. Aslam of Sindh Police - both are encounter specialists working for AZ under direction of Tappi the defacto CM Sindh. Ever heard of Baba Ladla, Uzair Jan, Arshad Papu, Jingo, Mohammad Khan Afridi, they're the gangsters that run every racket in Karachi. Tappi drives around DXB with teenaged hookers. AZ's only agenda is to amass wealth, he wants the Bhutto-Zardaris to have a legacy like that of the Rothchilds (amongst his bankers as well). Anwar paid out millions to AZ trying to topple ANP's KPK government and hoping to become governor, instead got backstabbed by AZ and now a nobody. Asad Umar is rumoured to have been forced to pay out Rs. 4 million for a 40 minute meeting with AZ regarding soverign guarantee default for no gas supply to Engros multi billion dollar fertilizer plant in Punjab. We all know who the "gate keeper" is! So why are you so shocked that the most corrupt and depraved man in our history has behaved so predictably, yeah we're all mad as hell but what we expect from them. Just imagine the amount of corruption that remains to be uncovered if they ever get thrown out. I've only divulged a petty amount lest I start hurting too many I know. Asif Zaradari should write a book tittled "The 101 laws of art of corruption". Keep writting, and stay safe.

  3. I came across a while back Googling land related issues an article "Land for the Landless" an impressive case study for land reforms, distribution of state lands amongst the landless
(victims of the earthquake in Kashmire). I was appaled by what it advocated. An athema for too many who have saved my skin too many times, fought my fights too many times, protected me, too many I totally will always love. Nevertheless it is much warranted. Thereafter I had missed KLF, read about it in Dawn. Googled it, Nino's article in Dateline Islamabad, read
all her artciles. I was much impressed. Here is someone who thinks a lot like me but hasn't been a beneficiary of corruption, nepotism and profiteering. Thats a very big difference! She's devoted her life and
continues to do much more than anyone I know for too many too many of us don't care about i.e earthquake victims, flood victims, the wreteched destitute manjority of Pakistan. Whose
she? Her father has served as Pakistan's Ambassdor to the USA, and more so as thr UN's Special Envoy to Iraq and then Sudan, it speaks volumes of his integrity. Our journalists are not journalists. Real journalism; Robert Fisk, Daniel Yergin, Ron Suskind, Bob Woodward, the Economist, and BBC. Our ones emulate Tim Sabastian, Hala Gorani. Vain attempts to be charismatic. Rhetorical questions, conjectures, trafficking in allegations, malicious harassment, that's not jouranlism. Ikram Sehgalis gr8, a former POW of'71 War, a self made man, has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on conferences at the World Economic Forum
in Davos. Nino's writtings are no different from Edward Said, Naguib Mahfouz, Robert Fisk, a noble attempt to awaken our consciences. Not paparazzi traffick of Ansar Abbasi, Kamran Khan, Hamid Mir etc. Yes I know the blogger so I will uncover all the coverups I know of!
Fell from grace when I saw starving people in MY PAKISTAN.
Its about time all of us must start revealing the names, and their modus operandi. We meet too many of them at funerals, dinners and weddings. My reasaons are not noble ones. Its
about money.Balochistan is no less than the Saudi Arabia for nonferrous metals. Incumbent governments corruption inhibits billions of dollars in foreign direct investment. I don't
respect sadist rapists (anyone who uses prostitutes) steals, and then comes on talk shows to lecture us about morality.
I don't want to be maliciously harrassed by advocate Khurram Khosa (Governor Latiff Khosa's son) whose got a fetish for mujras, and advocate Syed Raza Hashmi son of (Advocate Iqtedar
Ali Hashmi's whose Altaf Bhai lawyer) who loves to dance with a bottle of Scotch over his head, both use the FIA to blackmail, coerce, intimidate by using bogus complaints filed using CNIC cards of those who can't even sign their own names. They are both raking millions a month settling Plea bargain cases with NAB and FIA.
Nevertheless it can't get worse than it is now unless we want there to be a run on the Rupee, relive the Asian Currency, witness a run on the banks, the Pak Rupee hitting Rs. 1200
to US$, turn into another Somalia. Yes it can happen to us.
So anyone who reads this please start taking names, details of whatever corruption you know of. For too long we've appeased agggressors turing them more aggressive against us, delayed
war to their advantage, no more. No more holding back.
I am sure no one will ever figure out who I am - there's comfort in that. What I am happy about is that I know whom to mail corroborating evidences when the time comes. I know Nino
will not sell out and so should you all. Everyone, stay safe.

  4. Shahadat Awan, Public Prosecutor for Sindh, the lawyer who filled AZ's papers with EC, brother of Farooq Awan, SSP Anti Violent Crimes Cell, Sindh Police  (an encounter specialist) a strategically placed man who decides whether a case referred by honest cops is to be proceeded in court or lost by tampering evidences. The going rate for pre arrest bail, quashment of FIRs, protective custody (bail after issuance) arrest warrants starts from Rs 5 lacs. So that's why criminals roam free in Sindh.  Why isn't the media investigating him? Imagine the Public Prosecutor is a jiyala. The Criminal Prosecution Service being run by AZs man!

ARY Gold case (1997) in which tens of millions of dollars evaded in import duties by Haji Abdul Razzak Yaqoob of ARY, AZ, Hussain Lawai former President of MCB and now president of Summit Bank owned by AZ, are the main accused, the case had been dismissed by now defunct NRO, it's back in the court. Summit Bank's has made loans to AZ proxies, deposits have been embezzled (largely public sector organizations). Governor State Bank of Pakistan is unwilling to act, why? Another Mehrangate is going to hit us.

  5. Justice (Rtd) Rasheed Razvi's several times president of Sindh High Court Bar Association, has filled a petition, to be heard by SC next week, challenging the Electoral Lists as being bogus. Follow the case it's going to be heard by SC bench in Islamabad. No mention of it in the media.
