The Qu'ran says that a man is permitted to beat an unfaithfull wife. It is stated in "As to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them, refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly). . ." (4:34). I don't agree with it at all. A man has the option of a divorce. I believe that ranting mullahs, and tribalism, are much to blame for it. The free media has to launch an aggressive campaign against it by producing documentaries, dramas, and talk shows in Urdu, Pushtu, Sindhi, Balochi, and Punjabi. Legislation is never enforced by the corrupt police. Liberalism means that the constitution enshrines equal rights for all but doensn't exist in Pakistan i.e head of state must be a Muslim or Ahmedis are not Muslims. It all spawns from the defunct doctrine of strategic depth, our Establishment using Islamists as proxies to fight in Afghanistan & Kashmir, stoking conflicts to justify defence expenditures, billions spent and hundreds of millions stolen in kickbacks from defence contractors and their indenting agents. Its all to do with money, mullahs getting it from Wahabis and Establishment using Islamists. Legislation alone can't change anything...far more serious issue than Domestic Violence is "date rape" using a drug called euphoria and cases don't get reported because rich influential sons of do it. Going to a police station is scandalous in our country let alone for a wife to go report a beating, enoiugh said.
